If you’re looking for Southern California real estate, whether for a beach vacation home, retirement, investment property or to live in year round, here you’ll find area information and resources to help you find a local realtor and/or the perfect place to fit your budget. The Southern California coast will always be a great place to own property if you possibly can because it is in high demand by people from all over.

And why not? To have a place near the sea, with clean, salty breezes, and warm, sunny weather most of the year, is a dream for beach lovers everywhere. The fact that most of these coastal beach towns are still within driving distance of many major Southern California attractions and urban business centers is an ideal, even idyllic situation.

Even though we're in a down market, the values keep increasing over time and now is the best time to try and get in at the lowest prices in years.

Southern California real estate by the beach can vary widely. There’s Santa Barbara with it’s rich early Californian history and prime geographic location, nestled between the coast and the mountains. Ventura has a laid back old town atmosphere and lovely harbor, uncrowded even in summer.

There’s Malibu with its beach houses literally inches from the crashing surf, or hilltop mansions with spectacular views. Santa Monica has its beach cottages and proximity to UCLA, Hollywood, Beverly Hills and LAX.

Long Beach has adorable beach houses on the island of Naples, and along Belmont Shores and Alamitos Bay.

Then there’s Huntington Beach, or “Surf City” as it’s otherwise known. A great place to raise a family, and especially a family of surfers!

Newport Beach has a whole peninsula full of charming beach cottages and Balboa Island does too. Waterfront homes range from grandiose to simply sweet. Nearby Corona del Mar is a delightful small community with blufftop homes in a neighborhood above the beach.

Further south in Laguna Beach, there are homes in the canyons and bungalows up the hills from all the beautiful beach coves. Laguna is full of excellent and varied restaurants and art galleries.

San Clemente is a small beach town with adorable houses and neighborhoods. San Diego North County has a string of small, desirable beach communities from Oceanside to Carlsbad to Encinitas to Del Mar.

La Jolla is gorgeously elegant and visited by tourists from all over the world. Houses here are very expensive. Neighboring San Diego has vacation homes all along the isthmus between Pacific Beach and Mission Bay. The weather is superb, as is the water temperature in summer and fall.

There are many other beach areas along the Southern California coast, each with its own flavor, but too numerous to mention here. If you want to find out more about Southern California real estate in specific beach towns, click the appropriate link below:
