Visiting the Santa Barbara Mission

Built in 1786, the Santa Barbara Mission is a California State Historic Landmark. It was the 10th mission built in California and sits up above this lovely town. A large fountain graces the front.
It costs $4 to get in, but then you can tour yourself around, learning about California history at this mission through the exhibits. Then go out to the garden, see the chapel (which is still used for services), and the cemetery. The self guided tour starts in the gift shop.

From the 101 freeway, take the Mission Street exit and go east up the hill until it dead ends. Go left on Laguna for another few blocks to the mission.
The mission is open daily, 9 to 5. For more information, call
805-682-4149.
Up the street a ways is the Santa Barbara Botanical Gardens, so if you're visiting one, why not visit the other on the same day?
