Hermosa Beach California

Hermosa Beach boardwalk

Sandwiched between Redondo Beach to the south and Manhattan Beach to the north, Hermosa Beach California is a laid back little beach town. It's considered part of the area of Los Angeles County called the South Bay, which encompasses several wide, sandy beaches.

Being so far from the 405 freeway, it gets more of a locals crowd than does touristy Santa Monica. The Hermosa Beach Municipal Pier is your basic fishing pier, with a bait shop, restrooms and surfers riding waves nearby.

The palm tree lined street leading up to the pier has a smattering of restaurants and shops geared to the beach goer.

It's all very low key and unglitzy, which is it's main appeal. But the boardwalk, or South Bay Bicycle Trail can be quite a scene on a nice day. All sorts of athletic bodies jog, skate, stroll or bike along this trail between the beachfront houses and the beach.

See deals on Hermosa Beach Hotels.

There's sure to be some beach volleyball going on, as well as surfing near the pier or further south towards Redondo.
