At The Dana Point Marina
You Can Fish, Go Boating And Get Ice Cream

The Dana Point Marina in Dana Point California actually is divided into two marinas, east and west. There is a total of 2500 slips for boats. Of these, 50 are guest slips for visiting yachts.

There is a 10 lane launch ramp, a dry boat storage hoist and a fuel dock. The Dana Point Shipyard provides boat repairs and a marine hardware store. The marina also boasts shopping areas, restaurants, boat rentals, a small beach, sport fishing, whale watching, and kayak rentals.

At the west end of the harbor is the Ocean Institute,which is a great place to bring kids to learn all about the ocean, sea life, and tall ships.

Benches and grassy areas throughout the marina allow people to sit and watch the boats cruising in and out of the harbor channel, or just enjoy the relaxed marine atmosphere.

If you are a visiting boater, you can call the Harbor Patrol Office at 949-248-2222 to get information on anchoring in the marina. For guest slip reservations, call 949-496-6137. 


Dana Point Kayak Rentals

If you want to rent a Dana Point kayak to explore the harbor or maybe even do some kayak fishing, one place that rents them out is the UP Sports Kayak trailer at 34451 Ensenada Place. That's in the harbor next to Baby Beach. It costs about $20 an hour. Their number is 949-443-5161.

Or you can bring your own and enjoy cruising around the Dana Point Harbor as long as your heart desires.

If you have your own kayak, you can easily launch it at the Embarcadero Marina in Dana Point Harbor where they also have launch ramps. Call 949-496-6177. 


Fishing

Wouldn't you love to hang a "Gone Fishin'" sign on your door? There are many ways to fish, but in the Dana Point Marina, people like to go kayak fishing. The harbor provides calmer waters and easy launching for a kayak at Baby Beach.

A good place for children to try their hand at fishing is at the pier between Baby Beach and the Ocean Institute in the west marina.

Also, Dana Wharf at the East Marina has a tackle shop for your fishing needs. In addition, they offer a free kid's fishing clinic on Sundays from 12:00 to 12:30. This is held at the dock and the fun, friendly captains teach the kids the basics of learning how to fish, such as casting, tying knots and hooking bait. Prizes are given away as well.

Sportfishing

For those who like to hit the open seas with their lines, you can get hooked up with a sportfishing trip at the Dana Point Marina. Dana Wharf Sportfishing provides boats that will take you out on open water fishing trips. You can sign up for anything from 5 hour trips to 24 hours for the hardcore. They even have gear to rent out if you don't have your own.

Bass is the popular local catch. Other fish to be found at various times of year around Dana Point include bonito, halibut, yellowtail, leopard sharks, barracuda, calico bass, sand bass, white sea bass, perch, sculpin and sand dabs.

Private charters are available as well. 


Yacht Clubs

The Dana Point Yacht Club is found in the Dana Point Marina in Southern California. This yacht club is a social club for those of all ages who enjoy boating. They have a junior program, a fishing program and scheduled cruises.

They also sponsor the annual Richard Henry Dana Charity Regatta each September. They are very active in yacht racing as well.

Other yacht clubs in the Dana Point Marina include the Dana West Yacht Club and the Aventura Sailing Association.

The Dana West Yacht Club also has a Junior Sailing program, a racing program and hosts the Leukemia Cup Regatta. They also have a lot of scheduled cruises throughout the year. This yacht club is found at 24601 Dana Drive. For more info, call 949-661-1185 or see dwyc.org.

The Aventura Sailing Association is a yachting club you can join without owning a yacht. They offer sailing lessons, social sails and charters.
